The use of Technology : Umber’s diary

Hello everybody I hope you are all well! Today I wanted to discuss the use of technology during lockdown. There are many pros and cons to using technology during this time but in my opinion there are more positives than negatives.

Thanks to technology we are able to keep in touch with our family and friends that we are not able to see at the moment. We can use apps like FaceTime, Skype and Zoom to see our loved ones online and chat to them. Although it is not the same as seeing them in person , it is still an excellent way to connect with other people. I have been doing Zoom calls with my cousins almost every day. We do a quiz about general knowledge and have a new host every week. It is a fun activity for us as we learn new facts and talk to each other simultaneously!

People also use social media applications (apps) like Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter to keep busy and entertained. As a result there has been an increase in screen time on mobile phones. I don’t think there is a problem with using social media apps. However I think that they should be used in moderation. We need to give our eyes a break from looking at screens and should try to do other activities like reading a book, doing a jigsaw puzzle or drawing. A negative aspect of social media is the constant stream of information we receive from news outlets and other websites. It is good to stay updated with the news and to know what is going on in the world. On the other hand an overload of information can increase anxiety and worries. Remember to do everything in moderation!

Questions

1- Write down the words in bold and write their meanings.

2- Write a short paragraph about your opinion on using technology (social media, TV, game consoles) during quarantine.
