On the fourth Thursday of November, families and friends in USA and Canada come together to celebrate this festivity. Its origin is the feast that the Pilgrims held with the Native Americans to commemorate their successful harvest.

Our 1 ESO students have been told about this tradition and have made Thanksgiving cards in the shape of fruit which decorate our Bilingual Board.

The Thanksgiving Day parade is amazing especially in big cities like New York.

The Music and English Departments of IES Celia Viñas have joined efforts in these activities to approach music in English both from a linguistic and musical standpoint.

Students from 2ºESO A, B and C have practised their English and singing skills by means of analyzing and singing to two songs: the K-pop hit “Don’t Say You Love Me” by Korean star Jin and an oldie goldie from the eighties, Supertramp’s “Logical Song”.

The first song contains lots of verbs in the present simple, present continuous and past simple. On the other hand, the “Logical Song” is filled with adjectives to practise their pronunciation. Once analysed in the English lessons, the students sang the songs karaoke-style in their music lesson. 

We only hope they have had fun!

1B and 1C Students, divided into groups, watched a video set in a haunted house. It consisted of a game in which they had to answer several questions related to the music they were listening to (Danse Macabre, Camille Saint – Saëns). In addition, they also have to perform some rhythms with body percussion.

1A and 2C students also used body percussion and the music from Addams Family to celebrate this festivity.

Costumes and decorations are back again. Our students have created them to remember this traditional festivity in the english-speaking countries and other parts of the world. They have known the origins of this event in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain when people made bonfires and wore disguises to scare away wandering spirits.

1 ESO students listened to spooky Halloween stories told by 1 IB students and other activities were made to remind students that history and culture can also be fun.

Halloween 2025

ESPA I and II students attended to the film showing : “Votemos” directed by Santiago Requejo. After the film, the students shared some minutes with the director and one of the man actors.They listened to the analysis of the story and make questions about the plot . This film tells about social prejudice against mental health using a common episode, a neighbours’ meeting. As the director said “We all think we’re tolerant—until a dilemma hits close to home.” The students will work on the activity Comment on the film topic in class.

1 ESO A students have created volcanoes to understand some geological concepts and their importance in our life. You will see active , erupting, dormant and extinct volcanoes. You can visit the exhibition in the corridor next to their class during this month.
