Humour and Colour: Idioms Exhibition

You can watch an exhibition with cartoons which represent authentic idiomatic expressions used in different areas of our bilingual programme. These expressions can be very useful in real-life education and we encourage you to visit it and learn while you pass by the corridor. Enjoy it!.

IB Discussions on the roof

1º International Baccalaurate students discussed about the role of celebrities as role models for teenagers and the advantages and disadvantages of being famous. They chose a stunning background for this debate : the roof of our building. We enjoyed the activity and we hope we will have more chances to enjoy these discussions outdoors.

Art against Violence (International Day of Peace)

Most of you have enjoyed the exhibition which has been displayed in the corridor with the posters made by 1º ,2º and 3º ESO students in their Art classes.  We want to show just a few examples to compliment all the students on their great works to visualize the importance of measures to avoid wars and violence to solve problems all over the world.

The Music of Canada

Our language assistant, Nick Mosley, has been explaining about the varied musical expressions in Canada throughout its history. From indigenous music to the latest songs in the top charts. He has also talked about his experience as a musician and how relevant music could be for any kind of listener.

31 January : “School Day of Non-violence and Peace”

Last Monday,  our 4º A students celebrated the day of Non-violence and Peace in the  anniversary of the death of Mahatma Gandhi.  Our students listened to the famous speech which Martin Luther King, another icon of the Peace movement, gave to defend civil rights in a period when  segregation laws existed in USA. These role models make them be aware of the importance of peaceful movements to remind us that violence is never a solution.  These students also read a short biography of him and did some fil-in-the-gap activities.

 

 

25th November “End Violence against Women Now” (International Baccalaureate)


These images were made by the students in the International Baccalaureate Programme ( 1st year) to condemn gender violence and its consequences. Solutions can be found if we join our forces to support this worldwide movement.

The IB students (2nd year) have also created leaflets with the same theme. You can see some examples exhibited on our board in the corridor.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women was created by the United Nations . This year, the campaign’s theme is  “Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now!” where they want to encourage all the countries in the world to create ” a brighter future free of violence against women and girls”.

We want to collaborate with the Equality Programme (Programa de Igualdad) in our high school and we will go on preparing activities related to this topic like Talks on the bench , an activity where we will create dialogues using the symbolic bench placed in our playground next to our well as the background for our stories.

25 November: Day against Gender Violence

Next 25 November, a lot of activities will be held in Celia Viñas by the Equality Programme (Programa de Igualdad)  to raise awareness about the dramatic circumstances of those persons who have to suffer mistreatment, harassment and violence. Once more, the bilingual programme wants to collaborate on this day with different activities in their classes.

Some of our groups have prepared digital posters with images and messages related to this subject ,this will be the incentive to make our students talk about it and ,in the following months, they will also make up dialogues reproducing some situations using the red bench (a symbol against gender violence) placed in our school .

All these actions will help to show our refusal against any kind of violence.
