A diferencia de la mayor\u00eda de insectos, estas pueden batir sus alas anteriores y posteriores de forma simult\u00e1nea o alternada en distintas fases del vuelo. El efecto es m\u00e1s notable si en el aire hay humedad o part\u00edculas en suspensi\u00f3n. El rojo o el naranja se deben a la dispersi\u00f3n de Rayleigh, un fen\u00f3meno f\u00edsico. La luz del sol es blanca, es la suma de todos los colores del arco\u00edris. Viaja desde el sol a la Tierra sin alterarse, hasta que penetra en la atm\u00f3sfera y entonces choca con las part\u00edculas que la componen.
